The launch of flats at Battersea Power Station in London helped push new home registrations in the new year up nearly 30% compared with the same period last year.

NHBC's first monthly statistics of the year show that 10,112 new homes were registered around the country in January 2013, compared with 7,831 in the same month in 2012.

More than 800 new properties were registered during the first phase of Battersea Power Station. Over the next 15 years, 3,000 new homes will be built on the iconic London site.

The most recent figures from November 2012 through to January show an 18% increase compared with the same three-month period the previous year.
