The biggest retail insolvencies have lost landlords and other creditors a fortune, the latest data from Company Watch shows.

 

Creditors have lost more than £1.28bn from the sector’s 20 biggest insolvencies, including Peacocks and Comet, since the start of 2012. The Local Data Company estimated nearly 25,900 shops had closed since the start of last year, including 17,500 independents. Deloitte said 194 retailers called in administrators last year, up 6% on 2011.
