Renters facing eviction have been offered a reprieve, but only if they live in lockdown areas.

Housing secretary Robert Jenrick confirmed that court proceedings for evictions would restart on 21 September, but added that evictions would not be enforced in areas under local lockdown.

A broader extension appears to have been ruled out, prompting fears from district councils that half a million people could be at risk of homelessness.
