One in three UK companies is preparing to cut jobs by the end of September.

The results of the survey of more than 2,000 employers by CIPD and Adecco showed that the number of businesses planning to make redundancies had risen over the past three months from 22% to 33%.

The proportion rises to 38% when only private sector employers are counted.
