Retail jobs are being cut at the fastest pace in a decade as the government starts to withdraw its job retention scheme.

In its latest distributive trades survey the CBI said that a net balance of -45% of retailers said they expanded their workforces in August, down from -20% in May.

It is the lowest reading since 2009.

The outlook for next quarter, -52%, is even worse.
