The chancellor has drawn up plans to exempt most homebuyers from paying any stamp duty to help kick-start the Covid ravaged economy.

Rishi Sunak will reveal the plans this week, which could lift the threshold at which buyers start paying the tax to £500,000.

The proposal is a temporary measure, which is expected to be implemented in the autumn budget.
